The consultation is open until 7 August 2017. Use the form at the end of this pack to send us your findings and feedback.

Aim: To learn about young people’s experiences of youth work and how they think it could be more inclusive.

A Fair Start for Every Child

Child poverty remains a significant challenge in Scotland. As the economy recovers, we are increasingly concerned that the situation for children in low-income families is set to get worse, not better. The number of children experiencing poverty is predicted to rise considerably by 2020.This briefing summarises the main analysis from our UK report, A Fair Start for Every Child, highlights Scotland specific information and comments on what this analysis means for Scotland. It looks at how poverty is affecting the lives of children in Scotland today; the development of the three main drivers that cause child poverty – flat wage growth and trends in the labour market, recent pressure on social security spending and the rising cost of living; and what the future might hold. Our conclusion is that unlesswe address the threat of rising child poverty now, we risk a whole generation of children living in poverty being left behind. The briefing looks at the choice politicians now face and calls for further action. It sets out Save the Children’s immediate priorities for action for a fair start for every child by age 11.

The self-evaluation discussion provides an important opportunity at the start of the inspection for you to demonstrate how well you, your staff and partners know your services and your practice. It also enables us to work alongside you to begin our professional dialogue about improvement. You should approach the self-evaluation discussion in a way which best suits your own circumstances. Clearly, there will be a number of different ways to structure the discussion. There are, however, some basic points you may wish to follow which colleagues who have been inspected have found work well.
